Prop Firm Payouts: Splits, Schedules and the Consistency Rule
How prop firm payouts actually work: profit splits, first-payout rules, payout cycles and consistency requirements.
Profit split
The split is the share of profit you keep, commonly 70-90%. Some firms start lower and raise it as you scale or after a number of payouts. A higher split on paper means little if payouts are slow or restricted.
Timing
Check the first payout rule: many firms require a minimum number of trading days or a waiting period such as 14-30 days. After that cycles can be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Ask support how long processing takes and which methods (bank, crypto) are supported.
Consistency rules
Some firms limit how much of your total profit may come from a single trading day (for example no more than 30-40%). A lucky big day can then delay a payout. Know the rule before you size up.
Reality check
Treat payouts as a bonus on top of a skill, not guaranteed income. Keep your risk the same as in the challenge and withdraw regularly so your gains are not exposed to a later breach.
Example: a consistency rule
A firm allows no more than 40% of total profit to come from one day. You make $5,000 over a month, but $3,000 came on one day, which is 60%. The payout may be delayed until your other days bring the share under 40%.
Reading this rule before the challenge lets you plan: spread profits and avoid forcing one big day.
Questions to ask support
What is the minimum payout? How long after a request does the money arrive? Are there fees? Do I need to verify my identity first, and what documents do you require? Is the profit split fixed or does it increase? Save the answers; they help if there is a dispute later.
Key takeaways
- Check the first-payout rule.
- Consistency rules can delay payouts.
- Withdraw regularly.
- Keep risk unchanged after funding.
